Back again with another edition of “Raw & Unscripted w/Christopher Rausch.”This is something new I’m playing with where I sit down at the keyboard and see what flows naturally out of my fingers. I hope you enjoy this and let me know what you think! Deal?
It’s 911am and I’m sitting in my studio office staring out the window from my recliner chair. The air is crisp and the sky a beautiful baby blue. Off in the distance there stands three tall palm trees gently swaying that for me totally represent the California lifestyle. Right? Don’t they?
Last night, as I was moving furniture around here in my space, trying to find the best position for both my computer and my recliner, it occurred to me THIS spot is where I had this chair the night we moved in. It was nearly five years ago! I remember it, because my mom died at 1:36am that morning.
I stared out the window and the palm trees were there, and in the distance even further, were these blinking tower lights. With the wires below, it all seemed to form a face if I recall correctly. The lights were the eyes and the wires formed the mouth. Perhaps even a smile.
Call me crazy, but It appeared my mom was talking to me from the other side. The lights blinked ever so slowly as if to say “I’m alright now! I’m at peace and there is no more pain!”
Now, the tree in my front yard has grown like a zit before prom night, so I can’t see the lights, but still the view is pretty, dare I say, KICKASS.
If I think about it, when I look out the window, I can pretend the ocean is just up the horizon. The way the trees are in the distance I can pretend the ocean starts there :)
Speaking of pretending and imagination, what happened to ours? Remember when we were kids? We imagined ANYTHING was possible! “I want to be a fireman when I grow up!” Or, “I want to be a spaceman!”when I grow up. What the fuck happened? I’m guessing with the exception of maybe a few of us, we all went to school, got jobs, and now work to pay off school right?
So what really happened do you think? Oh, I remember now, those fucking “adults” (parents and teachers) chastised us with constant nagging, “Stop that daydreaming and come back to your times tables!” Or the other fan fav “Stop being stupid, you can’t do that! Just follow in your father’s footsteps and play it safe!” I assume now their concern for our safety was boiling up from their own anger for following the status quo as well. Think?
All in all, some serious bullshit right?
The good news is this: It’s never too late to rediscover our imagination. It appears in the world today people have become way too serious and opinionated. Don’t get me wrong, I love social media, but also miss the days when I didn’t REALLY know how close-minded those around me really are! Anyone else feel this way?
It seems the happiest people have some personal rules, know the rules of the world, but break some of them being silly and kid like sometimes too. Listen, there is NOTHING wrong with this! Get some finger paints, build a model, go buy a kite and fly the motherfucker! What did you love to do as a kid? I bet if you went and did it you just might find some peace and joy inside.
Well, this was a completely random post, which I like to call “Raw & Unscripted w/Christopher Rausch” How does that sound?
Until next time, wishing you all the KICKASS happiness you go after!
