Are you are old enough to remember Pong and using a pencil eraser to tighten or rewind your cassette tapes? Well, let me assure you this blog post isn’t about either one of those two.
The revelation that cassette tapes changed my life came to mind while I was recently being interviewed on a Google Hangout with Paula D’Andrea. Her show is “Rock Your Life TV” and you can watch the episode HERE if you like.
Anyway, she asked me something like “What single thing had the biggest impact on changing you from being homeless to having a Master’s degree?” Then, like a bolt of lightning, I instantly remembered how cassette tapes changed my life!
I think I was about fifteen or sixteen when one of those adult people told me “Hey, listen to these tapes a few times and tell me what you think.” It was my first seduction into the impacting words and passion of Tony Robbins.
So that night, with nothing else to do, I popped the first tape into my Sony Walkman. Not knowing what to expect, it literally took less than 30 minutes before I was HOOKED!!! At that very low time in my life I was blaming everyone else for my shitty situation of a life. But, Tony teaches emphatically WE are in control of our lives, and more specifically, our attitudes!
After I was done listening I felt like a drug addict! I wanted MORE motivational crack!! Since I didn’t have two nickels to rub together, I got resourceful and went to the library! You know, that place that smells funny and loaded with a shit-ton of free information that could change YOUR life?
Well, once I found out where they hid the cassette crack I checked out the amazing life-changing Les Brown. His passion and sincerity blew me away! Then, I discovered Zig Ziglar, W. Clement Stone, Dr. Wayne Dyer, and SOOO many more!
Once I learned I’m the one in the driver’s seat of my own life I started looking at my future much differently. And, as a result, I’ve been at my job for over 21 years where I’m a Director, I own two houses, have a successful KICKASS™ speaking and coaching business, and now host The KICKASS Radio Show.
And that my friend is the story of how cassette tapes took me from being a 7th grade homeless dropout to having the awesome life I have today!
If you’re more of a video message kinda person, I recently posted a video about this very subject which can be seen here.
I’d love to hear your comments, questions, or other blog ideas you’d like to see me write about! Please leave a comment here and I’ll definitely seek you out!
Until next time, I wish you all my very KICKASS™ best!!
